Welcome to the Riggs Group at Purdue University!

Our group studies many related aspects of field-based teaching and learning in the geosciences, focusing on issues of geoscience knowledge construction, spatial cognition related to geoscience expertise, and cross-cultural education.

Our group is also home to the Sharing the Land Project (StL), based at Purdue since 2006. This is an NSF-funded research and outreach effort working to make geoscience education accessible and useful to Native Americans across North America.

Scientifically, our group is interested in rock deformation, structural geology, and mineral physics and are aligned with the Geophysics and Active Tectonics (GAT) group in Purdue Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.

Eric Riggs is also Co-Director of the Center for Research and Engagement in Science and Mathematics Education at Purdue University and both Associate Professor in the Departments of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Curriculum & Instruction.  He is Past-President of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, having served as President for the 2007-08 academic year. He continues to serve on the NAGT board as representative to the AGI on public policy and environmental issues, and as the liaison to AAPG.

These pages are almost always under construction, please check in often as we update this site as our operations at Purdue evolve. Thanks for checking in!
