Spring Field Trip to Kentland

was a success!

The annual spring field trip this year was on Saturday, April 29th to the Newton County Stone quarry in Kentland, IN.  The quarry is located approximately 2 – 3 miles east of US Hwy 52 on US Hwy 24.

The site was remarkable, as we were able to see the uplift in many layers that occurred virtually instantaneously due to the meteorite impact which would normally take a millennium. Susan Daniel met us at the quarry and served as our tour guide. She very patiently showed us the entire quarry and explained the daily operations to the group. Everyone was able to collect shatter cones and other rock samples from the site.
