New worm to begin operating on April 1
The latest version of a widely known worm, called Conficker.C (also known as Downadup.C) will begin operating on April 1. At this time, it is unknown what actions Conficker will take when it begins operating. It may be as (relatively) benign as a pop-up ad generator, or it may result in the theft and/or loss of data.
You should be aware of any unusual changes in the performance of your Windows computers on April 1. Microsoft has made a tool available that will scan and detect all known versions of the Conficker worm.
