Laptop security checkups
With many people preparing to leave for upcoming conferences, now is a good time to discuss laptop security checkups. It is critically important to the security of your data and your identity to have a secure laptop, and even more so when you will be connecting to an unknown network (such as in an airport or hotel).
On Thursday, November 29, the EAS IT staff will hold a laptop security day. Owners of University laptops are asked to bring them in to receive a checkup. The checkup will consist of a quick check to make sure the operating system and anti-virus are being regularly updated. Any laptops which have not been scanned as part of the University-wide Social Security Number scanning project will be scanned. You will then be asked to leave your laptop plugged in for four hours to receive the latest OS and application patches.
There will be open hours in CIVL 4252 from 9 AM until noon on Thursday, November 29. We ask that you come during these times so that you will have enough time to leave your laptop plugged in before you leave for the day. As always, if you have any questions, please contact eas-itap@purdue.edu.
