Linux machines to receive kernel revision
Some network-related problems have been reported on EAS Linux machines in the past several weeks. Investigation by EAS IT staff members revealed that the problem is related to the 2.6.9-55 revision of the kernel, which some machines received during the upgrade over the summer. Other machines currently use the 2.6.9-5 kernel, which does not contain some of the latest security updates. In order to strike the proper balance between security and performance, all EAS Linux machines will receive the 2.6.9-42 kernel on Tuesday, September 18. The installation process will be quick and transparent to the end-user. When the installation is complete, each computer will need to be rebooted. Faculty will be informed and asked to reboot at their convenience. Instructional lab machines will be rebooted by EAS IT staff throughout the course of the day, but only while no one is logged in. If you have any questions, please e-mail eas-itap@purdue.edu.
