Technology Update

Summer work
The semester has ended, and the IT staff is planning summer work. Please
take note of the items below.
* Barring objections, the Linux computers in 4247 will undergo an operating
system upgrade on Wednesday, May 9. They will be unavailable all day.
* If you have any specific software needs for the fall semester in the
teaching lab -- on either on Linux or Windows -- please send e-mail to
eas-itap@purdue.edu ASAP. The ITaP Teaching and Learning Technologies
group, who maintains the Windows computers, is re-installing all software
over the summer. Any software you had installed on the Windows computers in
the 4th floor lab (STELLA, COMSOL, etc) will need to be reinstalled prior to
the beginning of the fall semester. If you need to have software
reinstalled, please leave the installation media and licensing information
in my mailbox.
* Laptop users: before you depart for the summer, bring your laptop in for a
day and plug it in to the network to make sure it has the latest software
patches and anti-virus updates. If it has not been inventoried, please
schedule a time with me to do that (it should only take about 10 minutes).
* Graduates: if you are graduating this month, please arrange with your
advisor to transfer needed data to a group-accessible space. If there are
files you want to keep, please make a copy of them and then delete the files
you have on hypocenter.
