Lab Facilities
Three biogeochemistry laboratories are maintained by Prof. Filley, his students,
and a full-time laboratory manager, Mr. David Gamblin. These laboratories
(2300ft2) contain 4 fume hoods and are well supplied with equipment for
molecular stable isotope laboratory work. Additionally, Filley co-directs
the
Purdue Stable Isotope facility with Professor Greg Michalski.
Ms. Bethany Theiling is the lab manager of PSI.
The following instruments are present in the Filley labs:
- Two Sercon 2022 stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers with continuous flow interface. Interfaces include an Agilent 6890 GC with a cryo focused injector and Gerstel stream splitter GC, a Sercon GSL elemental analyzer, and a Sercon trace gas concentrator (TG2).
- Stand alone Carlo Erba 1108 elemental analyzer for CHN-S analysis.
- A Shimadzu QP5050A-GC17A gas chromatograph-quadrupole mass spectrometer.
- A Shimadzu QP5000-GC17A gas chromatograph-quadrupole mass spectrometer with analytical pyrolyxer.
- A Shimadzu QP2010 gas chromatograph-quadrupole mass spectrometer.
- A Shimadzu GC17A gas chromatograph with FPD and FID detection and analytical pyrolyzer.
- Prime Focus alkaline copper oxide oxidation bombs for 12 simultaneous analyses of lignin in natural samples.
